What is MobaXterm?
MobaXterm is an advanced remote computing tool that integrates SSH, Telnet, VNC, and FTP into one single Windows application.
It’s known for its ease of use in securely accessing remote servers, managing files and executing commands.
Unlike PuTTY, which focuses on SSH connections, MobaXterm brings a rich feature set including an embedded X server, making it ideal for developers, IT professionals, and server administrators who require a comprehensive tool for managing their remote computing needs.
How to use MobaXterm?
- Go to https://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/download-home-edition.html and download the MobaXterm Home Edition.
- Make sure to download the “Installer Edition” instead of the “Portable Edition”.
- Install it as you would any other Windows program.
- Once MobaXterm is installed, start it. The program should start like this:
- Now click on the “Sessions” icon in the upper left corner.
- On the “Session settings” screen, click on “SSH”.
- Now click on the icon behind the username box, to set a new user.
- To create a new user click on “New”.
- For “Name” and “Username” you select “root”. For password enter your root password you received from your VPS provider.
- Click on “Ok” and go back to the SSH screen.
- Enter your hostname/IP address in the remote host text area.
- Click the checkbox “Specify username” and select “root” from the drop down menu.
- Then click on “Ok” to connect to your VPS.
- Click on “Allow/Accept” all connections, if another window pops up.
